Meet Stevette Heyliger, LPC
I work with individuals and couples who manage full, demanding lives and feel the quiet cost of holding it all together.
Seeking therapy takes courage. Whether you're feeling disconnected in your relationship, struggling with anxiety, or carrying the weight of painful experiences from the past, you're likely looking for more than symptom relief. You're looking for meaningful change.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years of clinical experience, I help couples and individuals understand the patterns that keep them stuck and create new ways of relating that foster greater connection, healing, and emotional well-being.
My work is grounded in the belief that our relationships have a profound impact on how we experience ourselves and the world around us. When those relationships feel strained, disconnected, or unsafe, it can affect every area of life. Therapy offers an opportunity to understand what is happening beneath the surface and move toward lasting change.
Experience and Training
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey with extensive experience working with couples and individuals facing relationship challenges, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions.
My specialized training includes:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and individuals
Brainspotting
Trauma-informed therapy
Attachment-based approaches to healing and relationship repair
I continue to pursue advanced training to ensure that the therapy I provide is grounded in current research and effective clinical practice.
Stress, pressure, and emotional strain do not simply disappear.
They live in the body
My Approach
I believe that most people are doing the best they can with the tools and experiences they have. Often, the very strategies that helped us cope in the past can create difficulties in our present relationships.
In my work with couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-supported approach that helps partners move beyond cycles of conflict, distance, and misunderstanding. Together, we work to strengthen emotional connection, rebuild trust, and create a more secure bond.
In individual therapy, I help clients understand how past experiences, relationships, and life circumstances may be influencing current struggles. My goal is not simply to help you manage symptoms but to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself and create meaningful, lasting change.
A Little About Me
My path to becoming a therapist has been shaped by both professional training and life experience. As an immigrant from Guyana, I understand the ways culture, family, identity, and relationships influence how we navigate life's challenges.
Clients often describe me as warm, thoughtful, and direct. I strive to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel understood, respected, and supported while also being gently challenged toward growth and change.
I consider it a privilege to walk alongside people during some of the most vulnerable and important moments of their lives
Ready to Take the Next Step?
Whether you're seeking couples therapy, individual therapy, or an intensive therapy experience, I'd be honored to help you move toward the changes you're hoping to make.
